The battery life has yet to be tested in camping, it is pretty, tiny and very practical. A real surprise, in line with all the products from the manufacturer Klarus

I ordered this 300 Lumen Klarus CL8 USB-C camping lantern (Amazon ASIN B0DQLBDY7Y) thinking it was a normal size camp lantern, where I had wondered why they termed it a lantern for kids. I found out when it arrived. I think the reason is that it's very small. Much smaller than a normal camp lantern is. However, that's fine as long as you're aware of that fact. In fact, it's a nice small light 4-1/4 ounce lantern for hanging up in the tent (which the handle and hanging hook easily facilitate). It's cute too, if you ask me. And seemingly well built. But keep in mind that it is very light.
However, being light makes it handy in a few ways. Plus, the 2Ah AA battery charges by a USB-C cable (a short cable is included, but it's too short to be of much use). And the four blue charge LEDs indicate the charge quite nicely (it even indicates charging current, albeit in a confusing way). But it's small. Keep that in mind.

It's roughly 4-1/4 ounces in weight and roughly about about 2 inches square & about 4 inches tall (see specified metric dimensions below).

I took a chance with this lantern thinking I could use it for camping. When it arrived, I did not realize how small it is. I laughed, is this a joke? However when I turned it on (yes it arrived fully charged), the illumination was HUGE for such a small package. It can light up a small room pretty decently - not standard light bulb right but better than your phone an do bright. I love the white light and the orange light and the different levels of brightness for both orange light and white light. I think this would be perfect if you are in a 2-4 man tent and want light to read, or do things, it offers plenty in my opinion. The carabiner is plastic so use it only for this lamp. It charges via USB-C, the rubber cover on it fits ok but I couldn't push it in enough to be flush but that's minor. Overall this is a solid purchase and I would buy again, not just for camping but something to have by the bedside in case of a power outage. P.s. the picture does not do it justice, it is brighter in person.

This lantern is aimed at children with its diminutive size and cute pumpkin top, but unlike a lot of kid's camping gear, this isn't just a cheap toy. It's actually useful, and is built pretty well, too.

First up, I have to give Klarus props for handling USB-C charging properly. It has the correct pulldown resistors to signal its presence to a USB-C charger, even when plugged in with an e-marked cable. Unfortunately, it doesn't support fast charging, which means it takes a long time to fill its large battery. From completely empty, it took just shy of four hours on average. It actually exceeded its 2000mAh rating, which is a bonus, and it runs for a very long time. The manual claims the brightest setting for warm light should last 8.5hrs, and it was pretty close to that in my testing.

I'm pretty impressed with the brightness and quality of light this produces. The white light is very full spectrum, without the bluish/purplish cast. Warm light is very yellow, perhaps a little too much so, almost reminding me of a sodium light (but not as monochromatic.) Being able to mix the two would be appreciated. Red is not quite as bright, but that's good if you're using it to maintain night vision. Regardless of color, the light is very soft and even. Looking directly at the diffuser, there are no bright or dim spots at all.

Control is quite simple. Pressing the button steps through warm low, warm medium, warm high, cold high, then cold low settings. Double clicking the button goes into red mode, pressing again goes into red strobe, and again into red SOS. Holding the button puts it into a pulsing/breathing mode with the warm lights. If you've waited more than ten seconds, the next button press immediately shuts the light off, something I always appreciate.

Build quality is very high. The entire unit is made from very sturdy plastic, and it doesn't flex at all when given a squeeze. The metal handle has a detent to hold it in its stowed position, and a grippy rubber coating. A small S-carabiner is included, and is also very stiff plastic.

I do have a couple of tiny complaints. The USB-C port cover can be a little fiddly to get back into place, but once there it stays pretty well. I also wish the hanging handle/hook had a point in the center, as even with the grippy coating it can sometimes slide on its hook and end up off-kilter. Both are extremely small grievances, though.

After the first charge, the unit shut off when two battery lights were still lit. It has not done this on subsequent charges, so I imagine the battery meter just needed to be 'calibrated.' I mention it just in case anybody else runs into this issue. Just leave it on until the battery is empty, and fully recharge it.

If you can't tell, I really like this little unit. The complaints I have really just nitpicks. Kids will certainly love it, as it's not only their size, but it's actually useful and not just a cheap toy. Don't let that dissuade you if you're an adult in need of a small floodlight, though. This little thing performs extremely well for how tiny it is. It may seem expensive compared to other options, but it really is worth the price.

this small lamp have multiple brightness modes. For this price, it's a pleasant surprise.
